Mormon Wrap--Encircled in God's Love contains 70 poems and was compiled, for the most part, by the author, Carolyn Perry Fife, as a means of "wrapping up" lessons she has taught in auxiliary organizations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sister Fife has spent many years teaching young women in the MIA programs; sisters in Relief Society; children in Primary; adults and youth in Sunday school, and teachers in Inservice.
As part of her own personal growth, Sister Fife found it spiritually uplifting to "wrap-up" as many lessons as possible with a summarizing poem. Hence her poems cover a wide range of subjects.
Her children and others have found that the poems are an excellent way to "wrap-up" a talk, or, for the youth of the church, to use as two-and-one-half minute talks and for seminary.
The reader is bound to find a verse or two to create the "Mormon Wrap". But, for whatever the purpose or reason for reading the poems, it is the express purpose of the author to assist the reader in feeling the overwhelming and unconditional love that our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ, have for each of us--that the reader will feel "Encircled in God's Love".
Sample Poem:
Lucifer, the Devil, I'm Satan You Know
Spirit child of our Father above, 'Son of the Morning', my name,
I had a seat in the Council of Heaven, 'twas there that I gained my fame.
I was an angel, an angel of God, with authority given to me,
Til my Father's plan, I would not accept, and rebelled that man should be free.
One-third of the hosts that dwelled with God decided to follow me,
Rejected a body that we might try to come and dwell in thee.
I lived with you, and I know your ways, and just how to make you fall,
Entice you, delight you, invite you to sin, for a little won't hurt at all.
It is much easier to tell a lie, the truth too often can hurt,
And Sunday's the best day of all you will find, if church you can avert.
Why pay for something, it's easy to steal, and very few get caught,
It's easy to follow my chosen path, shrug your shoulders and say why not?
Why should you save yourselves for marriage, why should you keep yourselves clean,
It was surely not I who made the rule, 'no dates 'til you reach sixteen.'
The path I chose, enjoy life now, who knows what tomorrow might bring,
Come join with me, and follow my flock, for of all that is carnal I'm king.
Give nary a thought to your life after death, my kingdom won't be so bad,
Course you'll never be a family again--no siblings, no mother, no dad.
Progression for us is at an end, in darkness we'll always remain,
So come with me, accept my call, bad habits apply the first chain.
Lucifer, the Devil, I'm Satan you know, my initials are LDS,
Think that's by chance, well guess again, I know what I must possess.
You in the church, the LDS church, have the Gift of the Holy Ghost,
And when I entice you and rid you of Him, your body I then can boast.
Oh members of the LDS Church, heed well what the devil has said,
Study the scriptures, pray constantly, if you do, you'll not be misled.
The Holy Ghost in you will dwell, will protect, and your companion be.
And you will know what the Savior meant, when He said, Come follow me.
